CAUTION!
CAUTION is an emotional project in which I explore the tension between attraction and repulsion, and the way an image can both invite and restrain. This tension is reminiscent of disaster tourism: the urge to look, while at the same time feeling that you perhaps shouldn’t.
The title functions as a direct cue; a warning that influences the gaze before one even begins to look. What follows is a situation in which the viewer is confronted with a sense of discomfort that both repels and attracts.
This discomfort relates to a mental state in which control and doubt alternate. The image remains partly inaccessible, leaving behind a feeling that cannot be fully defined.
“Caution” focuses on the experience of looking itself, and how perception is shaped by tension and an underlying sense of mental unrest.
