Esther Hovers
Esther Hovers is a Dutch artist working at the intersection of photography, technology, and surveillance. In False Positives, she explores how facial recognition systems interpret the world and where errors occur within these processes. By creating images that are misread by algorithms, she makes visible how these systems attempt to assign meaning to visual information.
What draws me to her work is the way she approaches perception from a technological perspective. Her work shows that seeing is not only human and subjective, but also shaped and interpreted by systems. It makes me reflect on how “objective” perception actually is, and how both humans and machines construct reality through images.
