Haruhiko Kawaguchi

Haruhiko Kawaguchi is a Japanese artist and photographer known for his experimental and physical approach to photography. In Fresh Love—where “fresh” can refer both to new love and something raw and immediate—he portrays couples vacuum-sealed together, pressing their bodies tightly against each other and restricting any movement. The result is a series of intense and disorienting images in which intimacy, closeness, and discomfort coexist.

What draws me to this work is the shocking and immediate impact of the images. They instantly capture attention and evoke both fascination and unease. At the same time, they make me reflect on physicality, connection, and how far one can go in the creation of an image.
