Jaap Scheeren

Jaap Scheeren is a Dutch photographer known for his playful, absurd, and narrative visual language. In his work, he explores the boundary between reality and fiction by constructing situations that feel both believable and disorienting. He creates a distinct visual world in which intuition, humor, and imagination play an important role, often based on everyday observations and found situations.

3 Roses, 9 Ravens, 12 Months is a project inspired by Slovak fairy tales. Scheeren traveled through Slovakia in search of scenes and moments that reflect the atmosphere and logic of these stories, creating a parallel reality in which fiction and reality intertwine.

What draws me to his work is the way he blends reality and fiction and how he constructs his images. The creation of his own visual world also resonates with me as a maker.
