My remake
This project was a studio assignment in which we recreated and interpreted photographic styles inspired by the work of photographers such as Stefaan Vanfleteren and Celine Van Balen.
We analyzed the differences between their approaches, particularly in terms of sharpness, contrast, and lighting. Where Van Balen’s images are often very sharp, Vanfleteren’s work alternates between sharp and softer, less defined elements. These contrasts influenced how I approached my own image.
During this assignment, I worked with a Hasselblad camera and analog film, which was also my first experience developing photographs in the darkroom. I learned how different lighting setups affect shadows and contrast, and how factors such as distance between subject, background, and light source influence the final result.
The process helped me gain more confidence in the studio and taught me to take more time, ask questions, and learn from working alongside others.
