Ruben

Ruben is an observational portrait of my older brother, in which I attempt to come closer to his inner world.

By photographing him in moments without clear direction, space is created for small gestures, glances, and silences. These fragments reflect a search for recognition and connection, without ever fully arriving at it. The work becomes an attempt to understand — a way of looking in which not the answer, but the act of searching itself is central.

The work moves between proximity and distance. Although I photograph close to him, his inner world remains partly inaccessible. In an effort to come closer, I also draw on his drawings, photographs from the past, and his interests as entry points into his experience.

The presentation in book form reinforces this sense of intimacy. Turning the pages invites a slow and attentive way of looking, in which the fragments gradually unfold.
