Sanne de Wilde
Belgian photographer Sanne de Wilde explores the relationship between perception, vision, and reality in The Island of the Colorblind. For this project, she traveled to the atoll of Pingelap in the Pacific Ocean, where a large part of the population has a rare form of total color blindness. Through the use of different photographic techniques—such as black-and-white imagery, infrared, and images painted by achromats—she challenges our assumptions about color and seeing, inviting the viewer to experience the world from a different visual perspective.
Her work inspires me in the way it questions perception through photography. I am drawn to its visual language and aesthetics, while the subject matter encourages me to reflect on how differently perception can operate and how subjective our understanding of reality truly is.
