Thomas Albdorf

Thomas Albdorf is an Austrian photographer known for his technically precise and carefully constructed still lifes and image compositions. His work moves between photography and image manipulation, in which he plays with light, composition, and digital interventions in a highly controlled way. This results in images that feel both deliberate and slightly disorienting.

What draws me to his work is the way he builds his still lifes in a technical and conceptual manner. Although I do not always feel a strong connection to staged still lifes, and working in a studio setting can sometimes be challenging for me, his work does resonate with me. It is clear that he is highly intentional with light, composition, framing, and the styling of objects, and that he takes time to carefully construct each image. I also find his use of image manipulation interesting. His work shows how much control and attention is needed to make a still life truly work, something I can learn a lot from in my own practice.
