Treasures

One man's trash is another man's treasure.”

In Treasure, objects are shown that were photographed in Kringloopwinkel Afrika in Beverwijk. Items that are not sold here are sent to regions where they are more needed and can be used again.

Above the images appears the text “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, a phrase that refers to the shifting value of objects. What is discarded by one person can hold meaning for another.

Through this context, the photographed objects take on a new meaning, in which function, value, and significance begin to shift.

The work explores how value is not fixed, but is shaped by the way we look.
