United Visual Artist

United Visual Artists (UVA) is a London-based collective founded in 2003, working at the intersection of light, technology, sculpture, performance, and site-specific installations.

In the project Other Spaces, UVA uses light to influence and transform architectural space. The lighting continuously shifts, causing the perception of scale, depth, and boundaries within the space to constantly change. As a result, your reference point of the space is continually thrown off balance.

What appeals to me in this work is how directly it engages with the viewer’s perception. UVA’s work shows how experience can emerge through light and movement, and how flexible our interpretation of space actually is. It is this shifting perspective, and the feeling that you cannot fully trust what you see, that I find particularly intriguing.
